October: National Chiropractic Month

By: Laura Wilson

National Chiropractic Health Month (NCHM) is a nationwide observance held each October. The event helps to raise public awareness of the importance of musculoskeletal health and the benefits of chiropractic care and its natural, whole-person, patient-centered and drug-free approach to health and wellness. So how does Power Plate fit into this message?

The vibration technology behind Power Plate has proven benefits to many clinical applications for the following indications:

  • Increased bone mineral density
  • Decreased pain
  • Improved blood circulation
  • Increased muscle tone and strength
  • Positive stimulation of neurological system
  • Increased flexibility and mobility
  • Enhanced balance and coordination
  • Improved well-being
  • Recovery and regeneration of damaged tissue
  • Increase of growth hormones
  • Stress reduction by means of improved hormone levels

Due to these significant health benefits, Power Plate therapy has gained acceptance from major medical, rehabilitation, and therapeutic centers around the world including the chiropractic world. The biomechanical aspects of vibration are widely used in the medical field for the treatment of certain injuries and the positive outcomes of illnesses. Under physician supervision, the vibration technology behind Power Plate allows patients with debilitating conditions such as osteoporosis, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease to improve their autonomy and daily living without exceeding their tolerance for exertion or pain during therapy. Power Plate is the perfect complement to many medical specialties.

The use of whole body vibration is being adopted in many practices for the above reasons. Growth in the market has been unexpectedly strong and feedback from practices pointing not only to positive acquisition of clients but also retention of both clients and employees according to Dr. Lisa Jurski PT, MSPT, COMT, CMTPT.

One of many examples of Power Plate use for chiropractic care would be Dr Perry A. Cammisa, DC. He began using Power Plate with “the initial aim of personal benefit, I surrendered my body to science by electing to use myself as a "lab rat" and develop a protocol for the treatment of low back pain using Whole Body Vibration (WBV). Six months after my real-life experiment began, I realized I had not had a flare up of any kind! I was more stable and balanced than I had been in many years, and I moved better in every way. I knew I was on to something, and that it was time to introduce what I had learned about WBV to my patients. This was a pivotal point in my career as a chiropractor. I had learned invaluable clinical lessons, through personal trial and experimentation that would forever change the manner in which I approach patients. I had discovered a new way to integrate an amazing technology into my existing treatment protocols. The benefits have grown exponentially ever since.” What started as a personal experiment and one Power Plate, has grown to 11 Power Plate machines in just six short years and Dr. Cammisa acknowledges that after his adjusting table, the Power Plate is the single most important tool he has to offer patients.
