Power Plate has been a staple of my own preparation, movement and recovery training for over 12 years. When I was recovering from knee surgery, working as a trainer in clubs or in senior fitness operator roles, I always look to find a place for this great innovation in the product or programming mix. The modern game of rugby has changed a fair bit over the past 10 years, and it is critical that we get as many gains as possible for our players.
We not only use Power Plate as a performance enhancer but also as a recovery tool as well as pre-gym or pre-field activator. We integrate the big Power Plates prior to our gym session which forms part of our mobility sessions. This gives us a great advantage to fire up some dormant muscle fibres and to pre activate the players before their gym session starts. I see a massive benefit for those players who suffer from tight Achilles’ pain as the vibrations in a sense releases the surrounding muscular and tendon structure which enables them to perform the required lower body lifts.
We use Power Plate’s pulse gun mainly for recovery purposes post gym and or field sessions. They have multipipe heads for athlete preference which is great. The vibrating foam rollers and peanuts add a special touch to soft tissue release for recovery purposes as well. We incorporate this on a daily basis with majority of the players and some of them have even bought their own as they feel they can befit from doing it at their homes as well.

We’ve all been there, it’s Sunday evening or we’ve returned from a vacation, and the realization sets in the it’s time to get back to work or to take on the tasks we’ve been avoiding…This is often referred to as the ‘Monday Blues’ or ‘Feeling Blue’. We feel dread and heaviness and innately we want to bury ourselves under the covers, hit snooze a dozen times or reach for comfort food in the hope of feeling a bit better! Stop right there!
